Mrs Margaret McLoone RIP

THE death took place last Sunday of Mrs Margaret McLoone (née Bergin) of Rush, North Co Dublin, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her husband Dinny and son Michael, she will be forever missed by her daughters Margie, Kate and Ann, her son Johnny, much loved grandchildren Mike and Emma together with their partners Angela and Shane; also, her sister Nessie, her brother Denis, sisters-in-law Aileen and Geraldine and all her family and friends.

Mrs McLoone’s funeral Mass took place yesterday (Friday) at St Maur’s Church, Rush. May she rest in peace.

Mr Norman Wheeler RIP

THE death took place last Sunday (January 29th) of Mr Norman Wheeler, Cloughkeating, Patrickswell, Co Limerick, peacefully in the wonderful care of Thorpes Nursing Home. The beloved husband of Liz, he was the dearly loved father of Alan and Raye and much loved grandfather of Amber and Simon.

He will be sadly missed by his loving son-in-law David, daughter-in-law Marie, brother Val, brother-in-law Noel, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Joan and brother Arthur. Mr Wheeler’s funeral Service took place at Kilpeacon Church, Crecora on Wednesday. May he rest in peace.

Sad loss of Jimmy Wofford

RENOWNED horseman Jimmy Wofford passed away on Thursday, February 2nd at the age of 78. The US Olympian was a stalwart in the equestrian community throughout his life as a rider, coach, mentor and friend to many. Wofford rode at the 1968 and 1972 Olympic Games aboard the Irish-bred Kilkenny, winning team silver both times and one individual silver.

He competed on the USA eventing team at the 1970 and 1978 World Championships, earning bronze medals at both. Wofford’s accomplishments also include five wins at the US National Championships, a team gold medal at the 1967 Pan American Games and two wins at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event.

Millar new Canadian chef d’equipe

CANADIAN Olympic legend Ian Millar is the new chef d’equipe of the Canadian show jumping team, taking over from Eric Lamaze who spent a year in the role.

Millar is the most successful competitor in the history of Canadian show jumping. He is a 12-time Canadian National Champion and has competed in 10 Olympic Games, more than any athlete in history.
