POWERFUL Glory, winner of the Group 1 British Champions Sprint and the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes, has been retired from racing. The son of Cotai Glory raced twice without success this year for the Richard and Peter Fahey yard. Stud plans have yet to be confirmed.

Extra prize money for Tattersalls sales race

THE prize fund for Sunday’s Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes at the Curragh has received a significant boost. Surplus funds received from entries are being put back into the overall prize money pool, meaning that the race value is now €316,500, which is €66,500 above the original value.

Skin cancer awareness

VISITORS to next week’s National Ploughing Championships in Screggan, Co Offaly, are invited to learn more about how to reduce the risk of contracting skin cancer by visiting the SUNiRE stand. Set up by Linda Chanders, SUNiRE is a skin cancer survivor who is on a mission to inform those who work outdoors about the potential harm caused by UV rays. “I am trying to reach people who work in agriculture, equine and construction,” Chanders said. “People who work outdoors, such as horse exercise riders, are three times more likely to get skin cancer than indoor workers.” The SUNire stand is located at block 3, row 8, stand 150.

The Jukebox Man sidelined

BEN Pauling and Harry Redknapp’s King George VI Chase winner The Jukebox Man has been ruled out of the first half of the National Hunt season after picking up an injury. The eight-year-old was subsequently well beaten in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham.

The trainer posted on social media this week: “The Jukebox Man has picked up a knock which frustratingly rules him out for the first half of the season. Both myself and Harry are understandably very disappointed but relieved it is not career ending. He will receive the best possible care during his rehabilitation and we look forward to his return in due course.”
