Death of successful breeder

THE death took place on October 10th of successful owner Rose Dunne. She was 89. She enjoyed great success with a small numbers of horses, and had a superb winner-to-runner ratio. No change in champions

COLIN Keane, Aidan O’Brien and Mrs Sue Magnier will all retain their respective titles when the Irish flat turf season ends at the Curragh on Sunday. Jamie Powell is virtually certain to join the trio on the podium as champion apprentice.

Keane gained a stranglehold on the championship in late August and powered home for his fourth successive title and his fifth in all. Keane shared Group 2 success with Ger Lyons as Zarinsk won the Romanised Minstrel Stakes at Leopardstown in July having won a Group 3 with the same horse on two occasions earlier in the season. For the 26th time, Aidan O’Brien is champion trainer. His Irish Group 1 winners were Auguste Rodin (twice), Paddington, Savethelastdance, Luxembourg and Henry Longfellow. The highlight of Powell’s season was his success on the Fozzy Stack-trained Aussie Girl in a premier handicap at the Curragh on Irish Derby weekend.
