IN a terrific battle to the line, Jack Kennedy galvanised the Bective Stud-owned gelding Zanahiyr to get up to head Keith Donoghue and Ballysax Hank in an Irish one-two in the $250,000 Grade 1 American Grand National on Saturday.

It was not plain sailing as the winner did not jump well but Kennedy drove him in pursuit of Ballysax Hank rounding the final bend and, though the Gavin Cromwell-trained runner-up had the advantage jumping the last and on the run-in, Kennedy got his mount up in the final strides.

It was a second win in the race for Elliott who won in 2018 with Jury Duty.

On an amazing day for the yard, the Cullentra trainer sent over six horses to compete in five races and won all five of them.

Coutach and Danny Gilligan took the $150,000 Foxbrook Champion Hurdle (Sport of Kings Novice Hurdle Stakes). The Peapack (Sport of Kings Filly/ Mare Hurdle Stakes) was won by Emily Love, the McDynamo Maiden Sweepstakes (Maiden Hurdle Stakes) with the appropriately named We're Back Again, and the Harry E. Harris (Sport of Kings Four-Year-Old Hurdle Stakes with Chortal with Jack Kennedy at the helm on all those last three winners.
