PREPARATIONS for this year’s Dublin Horse Show, which will cost the RDS an estimated €6.2 million to stage from Wednesday, August 17th to Sunday, August 21st, are well underway, with entries set to open on Tuesday, June 7th.

The 2022 Dublin Horse Show Competition Schedule has been posted out to equestrian exhibitors who competed at the Show during its last two runnings, in 2018 and 2019. The Schedule is also available to download on the Show’s website - www.dublinhorseshow.com. For those wishing to receive a copy of the Schedule by post, they can email equestrian@rds.ie with a postal address.

Prize fund increases

With its mission of supporting the Irish sport horse breeder and producer foremost in mind, the RDS has substantially increased the prize fund for the national competitions at this year’s Show. The showing prize fund sees the biggest increase of over 28% to €311,861.

The national jumping prize fund also sees a significant increase of almost 20% to €82,000. Entry fees have increased by less than 5% across the five entry brackets since its last running in 2019. The RDS estimates the costs of this year’s five-day Show to be in the region of €6.2 million.

New classes

In addition to the prize fund increases, new classes for 128cm and 138cm six- and seven-year-old show jumping ponies, and a new class for Traditionally Irish-bred Working Hunter Horses had been added to the list of competitions, now totalling 168 at this year’s Dublin Horse Show.

Qualifiers are well under way, and over the next few weeks riders and potential competitors will compete for much sought-after spots in the following classes and competitions; the Young Event Horse classes, Junior /Young Rider Event Horses, Connemara Performance Hunters, Performance Irish Draughts, Ridden Connemaras, Breeders’ Championship, Ladies’ & Intermediate Side-Saddle, Combined Training, the Three-Year-Old Performance classes and a wide variety of show jumping competitions ranging from 128cm ponies to Amateurs through to the International seven- and eight-year-old competition.
