AN essential guide for all those involved in the bloodstock industry is the recently published Weatherbys Bloodstock Sales Review 2019, Part 2.

Priced at £48, the guide provides an in-depth analysis of all animals sold at public auction in Europe, plus foals and yearlings sold in North America and sired by Europe-based stallions.

Just a few of the headline facts contained in the review are: the most expensive foal sold in 2019 was a chesnut colt by Dubawi, out of Nightime, purchased by Godolphin for €1,200,000 at the Goffs November Foal Sale.

Coolmore sire Caravaggio had a great year with his first crop of foals selling for up to 250,000gns. Ten of his offspring made over 100,000gns and averaged 91,148gns from 33 sold.

Night Of Thunder’s foals were in high demand this year after his amazing start at stud with the average price for his foals jumping from 18,866gns in 2018 to 55,071gns in 2019.

Bated Breath, Coach House, Dabirsim, Dark Angel, Elusive Pimpernel, Frankel, Invincible Spirit, Teofilo and Wootton Bassett all had foal sales averages that were higher than their yearling averages in 2019 (stallions with three or more foals sold).

Coplow, the dam of Billesdon Bess and Billesdon Brook was the highest price mare sold in Europe in 2019, selling for 2,100,000gns to M.V. Magnier at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale.

The review lists: averages and medians for both colts and fillies of different age classes by sire, vendors and purchasers, leading sires lists, extensive editorial comment and top lots from major sales.
