Mrs Margaret Kelly RIP

THE death took place of Mrs Margaret Kelly, peacefully at home in Co Wexford, on October 11th 2022. Involved in horses her whole life, she was a familiar face the length and breadth of Ireland at the many race meetings, horse sales, hunting fields and county shows. Until recent years, Margaret was never one to miss such occasions as the Dingle Races, Ballinasloe Fair, Goresbridge Horse Sales and numerous race meetings throughout the country.

She remembered fondly all the great people she met along the way and good friends she made. Her last winning racehorse was Tryptronic at Gowran Park and her show horse, My Little Giant, brought her all over Ireland winning Champion Hunter at the shows. She enjoyed a life well-lived up until recent times. ‘Thank you’ from her family to everyone who travelled from far and near to attend her funeral. She will be sadly missed by us all.

Celebrities ready for Treo Eile Christmas fundraiser

TREO Eile is hosting its Christmas Pro-

Celebrity Showjumping Fundraiser at Emerald Equestrian Centre on Thursday, December 15th. The event will showcase the very best of Ireland’s retrained racehorses who will compete on teams of four in a timed competition, starting at 6pm. All riders will jump a track of 15 fences with fastest completions winning the coveted Horse Racing Ireland Perpetual Trophy and a variety of gifts from class sponsor Connolly’s Red Mills.

The competition has attracted some of the racing industry’s brightest stars including Rachael Blackmore, Davy Russell and Patrick Mullins, while former champions Robbie Power and Nina Carberry will also be lining out along with international eventing riders Patrick Whelan, Sarah Wardell and Gillian Beale King. Galway international show jumper Jessica Burke will walk the course with the squads.

Hosts for the annual event include Racing TV’s Kevin O’Ryan who commented: “This fundraiser is such a fun evening and includes the very best humans and equines from both the racing and sports horse industries.

“ It highlights the adaptability of thoroughbreds and how well they can transition and compete in other disciplines. There are now lots more opportunities for retiring racehorses and the Treo Eile programme encourages their participation.”

The event is preceded by the Moyglare Stud Parade of Champions where, amongst others, Tiger Roll, Al Boum Photo, Douvan and Hurricane Fly will feature and be shown to the public. The opportunity for a ‘selfie’ with the stars could also make some dreams come true so be sure to book your tickets well in advance on the itsps.org/te website.
