THE Seán McElroy-bred Killer Kane recorded his fourth track success when justifying favouritism under Brendan Powell in the featured Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap Chase at Kempton last Friday.

Trained by Joe Tizzard, the eight-year-old Oscar gelding is out of the unraced Native Idea. That Be My Native mare is dam also of the Double Eclipse gelding Go Native whose nine wins included three Grade 1 and two Grade 2 hurdle races.

Consigned to the 2018 Derby Sale by Shanrod Stables, Killer Kane was knocked down for €70,000 to Monbeg Stables who received £300,000 for the bay at the 2020 Cheltenham Festival Sale following his debut win in a five-year-old geldings’ maiden at Ballycahane a week earlier.

At Navan on Sunday, the Willie Mullins-trained, Paul Townend-ridden Hunters Yarn comfortably landed the Listed INH Stallion Owners EBF Novice Hurdle to record his second straight victory over timber and his fifth win in total.

The six-year-old Fame And Glory gelding was bred by Callie Berry out of the Epervier Bleu mare Full Of Birds, the dam of five other multiple track winners.

Despite Patrick Cowley losing his irons at one stage, the Laura Morgan-trained even-money shot Whistleinthedark saw off the Brian Hughes-partnered Since Day One (8/11) by nine lengths in the two-runner novices’ chase at Wetherby on Wednesday.

Another by Fame And Glory, the eight-year-old was bred by Kathleen McKeever out of the Lahib mare Last Of Many, the dam of two other track winners.

On the training front, Stuart Crawford’s good run continued on Tuesday at Ayr where, in the colours of the executors of the late Corinne McAlister, the J.J. Slevin-ridden Langdale Lane landed the near two-mile, five-furlong maiden hurdle by a length. This was a first win on his seventh start for the six-year-old Kalanisi gelding.

As he awaits the result of his appeal against his IHRB-imposed 12-year ban, Ronan McNally saddled Vee Dancer to win the opening two-mile handicap at Dundalk on Wednesday.

This was a first victory on the level for the three-time hurdle winner who scored by three-quarters of a length in the hands of Dylan Browne McMonagle.

Jump jockeys

On the National Hunt jockeys’ front, Brian Hughes rode six winners in the period under review.

These included a Monday double at Catterick where Danny McMenamin partnered the Neil Mulholland-trained Tango Boy to victory in a two-runner handicap chase.

On the same afternoon, Sam Ewing recorded his first win for Mulholland and his first at Plumpton where he claimed the opening conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle on Crossing The Bar. Last Friday evening, Ewing displayed his flat-riding skills when winning the first division of the mile handicap at Dundalk on board the Michael Halford-trained Arcanears.

Sympathies much appreciated

UNFORTUNATELY, I’m a bit short of room to go into the wins at Kirkistown on Saturday of the locally-owned and trained Time Was (ITBA five and six-year-old mares’ maiden), Bold Enough (CAB Group open) and Shantou Show (Bar One Racing six-year-old and upwards maiden).

However, having been alerted to the fact by The Irish Field’s harness racing correspondent Dan Carlin, I would like to note my appreciation of the announcement made sympathising with me and the rest of the family on the death of our mother Margaret.

She never attended any of the North Down meetings out on the Ards Peninsula but did make many visits to Comber over the years.
