FORMER Irish point-to-pointers dominated the finish of Saturday’s Crabbie’s Grand National led by the Mouse Morris-trained Rule The World who, in the colours of Gigginstown House Stud, gave David Mullins (19) a dream debut ride in the Aintree spectacular.

The 2007 Sulamani gelding, who went into the race a maiden over fences, appeared only once between the flags. That was in November 2011 at Affane where he won the second division of the four-year-old maiden for the same owner/trainer combination but under the currently sidelined Derek O’Connor. Mullins, who took part in most other equestrian pursuits during his earlier teenage years, never rode in point-to-points.
