The meeting was a favourite of his late father Clement and, on Saturday, Clem gave in to the wish of his son Louis to attend a point-to-point. “He has been a bit like some horses running here,” said Clem of the three-year-old. “He showed a lot of early pace but ran out of steam after the first two races!”

While his father watched the rest of the action, tractor-mad Louis remained vehicle-bound with his grandmother Maureen. Wisely, Clem’s wife Stacey stayed at home on Saturday with the couple’s son Oscar, who was born on February 3rd. Amateur show jumpers James and Joanna Curran were also at their local point-to-point along with children Jamie (six) and Shannon (three).
