MADAM,

The Irish Field on Saturday, August 26th carried a report on page 90 of the Cavan Premier three-year-old sale. In the performance horse and pony sale, 12 ponies out of 16 have absolutely no breeding recorded, two others have stallion names attached and only two have sire and dam named.

How can the breeding be unknown in this day and age with DNA sampling available? Can this be explained by the Minister of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, or his department?

Yours etc,

Noel Lane,

Brosna, Co Kerry
