Time for a Minister of equine?

MADAM,

I HAVE been closely following the fantastic achievements of the Irish equine industry over the past five years, especially the results gained overseas by our horse and pony teams.

The eventing team really had some very exciting results, while our pony teams have had some fantastic results, both gold and silver.

Our equine activities in Ireland come under the Department of Agriculture and I believe that there are far too many portfolios in the Ministers remit and that Equine is not achieving the full attention it deserves to reach its full potential.

I honestly feel that now is an opportune time to appoint a Minister to look after the breeding, show jumping - horse and pony, eventing, dressage, TIH, Irish sports horses and racing.

Let’s hear the thoughts of the equine people of Ireland.

Yours etc,

Jimmy Canavan
