Sir, - Two years ago, when the Fairyhouse Easter meeting was abandoned due to Covid, it foiled a personal milestone of attending 75 consecutive Irish Grand Nationals on what was to be the 150th running of the race. Life’s full of disappointments!

Frequently on Easter Sunday afternoon (weather permitting), with a late friend of mine and our Doberman Max, we walked the track – our post-prandial perambulation. Max enjoyed jumping up and over the fences, but back to the present.

At Naas on Sunday the entrance fee was €9. For some time Naas has been the most progressive and user-friendly racecourse extant. Compare that with Fairyhouse on Saturday where the tariff was €15. That may have something to do with the sparse attendance. Rethink needed. – Yours etc.,
