TREO Eile, the not-for-profit organisation providing assistance to racehorse trainers and owners who wish to rehome and retrain horses once their track careers are over, has come on board as a sponsor at next weekend’s Irish Pony Club/Connolly’s Red Mills eventing championships at Tattersalls (August 27th and 28th).

Treo Eile will present a training bursary to the rider of the top-placed thoroughbred in the Open, Intermediate and Into Intermediate championships once they are placed in the first six. To be eligible, riders (or their parents/guardians) must first ensure their horses have a Weatherbys Thoroughbred passport and they must register their horse on the Treo Eile website (this is free and takes very little time).

Tiger Roll at Dublin

Like many others, Pony Club members attending the Dublin Horse Show today (Saturday) will have a big interest in the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing racehorse to riding horse class which is due to commence at 1.05pm in Ring 1.

The judges this year are former Ward Union Branch member, Irish Grand National-winning jockey and Dance For The Stars winner Nina Carberry (ride) and the three-time Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning trainer Henrietta Knight (conformation), another former Pony Club member and, at one-time, chairwoman of the British Horse Trials Selection Committee.

Everyone ringside will be supporting their favourites but Pony Club members will have extra reason to cheer for the two winners of the Grand National.

Gigginstown House Stud’s Tiger Roll (2018 and 2019) will be ridden by Westmeath Branch member Ted O’Leary, who was on the silver medal-winning team at the recent Junior European eventing championships, and Deborah Thomson and Belinda McClung’s One For Arthur (2017) will be partnered in the hugely popular RDS class by Kilkenny Branch member Aisling Dwan.
