IRE Incentive expands into Britain

HORSE Racing Ireland’s popular IRE Incentive scheme will break new ground in Britain today when a €10,000 IRE Incentive voucher will be linked to the EBF Maiden Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

The scheme awards a €10,000 Irish Sales voucher to the owners of Irish-bred winners of designated races. Vouchers can be spent on Irish-breds at Irish public auction sales. There are eight Irish-breds among the 15 runners in the Goodwood race today.

Since the scheme launched in Ireland in March of this year, €440,000 in vouchers has been distributed to 35 individual owners. The scheme thus rewards and encourages investment in Irish-bred stock and means it really does pay to buy Irish.

“Britain is by some distance the biggest export market for Irish thoroughbreds and it is important to expand the IRE Incentive there,” said Charles O’Neill, CEO of Irish Thoroughbred Marketing.

“There will be more IRE Incentive races run in Britain ahead of the Irish yearling sales. Saturday’s race at Goodwood is the perfect way to kick things off.”
