Win for Jessica Burke

JESSICA Burke won a 1.40m class at last weekend’s two-star international in Chepstow, England. Riding Liam Nicholas’ home-bred Irish Sport Horse Express Trend (Future Trend x Condios), she was the fastest of eight clears in the jump-off in 36.29 seconds. The Arion Stud-based rider also slotted into third place with Inpulss (0/0 38.47).

Burke was third in Sunday’s 1.40m jump-off aboard the British-bred Billy Utah when one of seven double clears in 40.89 seconds. Billy Twomey finished fifth with DXB Legend (0/0 41.50). Twomey and the nine-year-old French-bred stallion had earlier finished fourth in a 1.40m two-phase, and the Cork native also picked up a third and fourth place finish in Sunday’s 1.40m with Ardfry Van V Uriko and Chat Botte E.D.

Condon wins in Gijon

WATERFORD’s Anthony Condon was in great form at the four-star show in Gijon, Spain, placing second four times and winning a two-star class. His victory came in Thursday’s two-star 1.45m with the Stephanie Forde-bred Merlins Victoire, a nine-year-old gelding by Je T’Aime Flamenco.

He was then second in Friday’s four-star 1.45m with another ISH, the eight-year-old Creevyquinn Pearl (VDL Cardento x VDL Corland) who was bred by Stephen and Eilish Reilly. The pair were also runners-up in Sunday’s 1.45m. Condon was second in the one-star 1.55m on Friday with Pat Hales’ home-bred gelding SFS Vincomte. Also on Sunday, he guided the Ruth Loney-bred seven-year-old mare Bellevue Celestial to a double clear and second place in the six- and seven-year-old 1.30m.

Jeremy Sweetnam

runner-up in Germany

CORK’s Jeremy Sweetnam finished runner-up in a four-star 1.50m two-phase in Münster, Germany last Sunday. He guided Barra Sweetnam’s nine-year-old mare Brown Star Z to a double clear in 28.50 to earn a prize fun of €7,000. German eventing Olympian Michael Jung won the class aboard fischerChelsea in 27.77.
