YOUNG Oliver McCarthy has been in flying form in the USA lately. The Limerick rider won the Walton Cup Grand Prix with the 12-year-old Irish Sport Horse MHS Automatic, who was previously ridden by his cousin, Greg Broderick. The win was followed by a fourth place finish in the $35,000 Grand Prix with Beechfields Astra Zeneca last Saturday. More success came on Wednesday when McCarthy placed second with MHS Automatic and fifth with another Irish Sport Horse, ESI Vienna, in the Mini Grand Prix. The class was won by Tipperary’s Kevin Babington and the Irish Sport Horse Super Chilled, bred by Cheryl Broderick.
