SLIGO show jumper Kevin Gallagher won a four-star 1.45m class at the Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera in Spain last weekend.

In Saturday’s speed class, he guided GBBS International Ltd’s DHF Lift Off to the fastest of 28 clears in the class which had 66 starters. The pair were clear in 35.72 seconds, seeing off France’s Laura Monier and Attaque by two hundredths of a second.

By Harlequin du Carel out of a Mr Clover mare, the nine-year-old mare DHF Lift Off was bred by Stephen Kane and produced for the majority of her career by Jessica Stallard, before joining Ballypatrick Stables last November.

Allen win

Harry Allen won Friday’s 1.40m two-phase at the venue. He guided Caroline Amundson Carey’s nine-year-old mare Carrera Denfer to the best of 35 double clears, winning in a time of 28.55 seconds.

Allen and Alexander Butler were both placed in Sunday’s four-star 1.55m Equine American Grand Prix, which was won by Switzerland’s Steve Guerdat with his lovely 10-year-old mare Dynamix de Belheme. Some 50 riders qualified for the feature class of the week and 12 made it through to the jump-off.

There were seven clear against the clock and Guerdat had the winning time of 39.38 seconds, just ahead of his teammate Martin Fuchs in second with Commissar Pezi (0/0 39.92). Butler slotted into seventh place with clear in 46.74 seconds with Milestone Farm’s 12-year-old gelding Ti Amo B Z, while Harry Allen had the fastest time of the class (38.88) with Calculatus but picked up four faults to place eighth.
