CORK’s Billy Twomey was victorious in the four-star Grand Prix at the rain-hampered Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera last Sunday week. Riding Kim Barzilay’s nine-year-old chesnut gelding Kimba Flamenco, who is by his former Nations Cup mount Je T’aime Flamenco, Twomey was the fastest of 10 combinations in the jump-off in a time of 36.42 seconds.

Some 47 entries started over the 1.55m track, designed by Spain’s Santiago Varela. Twomey collected €16,300 for his victory on the well-bred gelding, whose dam is by the great sire Heartbreaker. Germany’s Michael Viehweg took the runner-up placing aboard Lord Of Pezi (0/0 36.50), ahead of Spain’s Eduardo Álvarez Aznar and Uqualin Du Saulcy (0/0 37.18).
