KILKENNY’s Seamus Hughes Kennedy’s fantastic run of form continued in Belgium last weekend when he won the 1.45m two-star Grand Prix at Sentower Park.

The 20-year-old was riding the Ennisnag Stud-bred ESI Ali who, owned by his mother Clare Hughes, won the two-star Grand Prix in Balmoral last month.

The class saw 72 start over the track, with just 11 of those making it through to the jump-off.

Against the clock, six were clear again and Hughes Kennedy was the fastest of those with the Stakkato Gold mare in 41.44 seconds, just over a second faster than compatriot Jason Foley who claimed the runner-up spot with Lyonel D, a 14-year-old gelding owned by Guy Bloodstock Ltd. Foley is based at Sean Cubitt’s Bruntwood Stables in Belgium.

Earlier in the week, Hughes Kennedy won a two-star 1.45m jump-off with Castlefield Her, a nine-year-old mare by Plot Blue who was bred in Kilkenny by Jim O’Neill. The pair were the best of nine clears in a 22-horse jump-off to earn €6,550.
