MORE than 90 horse and pony riders gathered at Kilcoran in Co Tipperary last Sunday for a fun ride and charity in aid of the Lisa Curtin Fund.

Nine-year-old Lisa Curtin suffered serious facial injuries in a riding accident three weeks ago and was airlifted to Cork before being transferred to Crumlin Children’s Hospital in Dublin.

She underwent several facial surgeries while in Crumlin and thankfully has just returned home to her family in Monard, Co Limerick. However she will require a series of further surgeries in the weeks and months to come to make a full recovery.

Lisa’s family are well known in the hunting world, with father Jude, mother Claire and Lisa’s two sisters Jennifer and Sinead regular followers of many packs and members of the Scarteen Pony Club.

RAISE FUNDS

Last weekend’s fun ride and raffle was organised by the Galtee Harriers and the South Tipperary Harriers and supported by neighbouring packs such as the Scarteen and Tipperary Trail Hunt. Two cake sales and non-uniform days were also run by Bansha NS and Tankerstown NS to raise funds.

Now an incredible 28 packs from all over Ireland have thrown their shoulder to the wheel by offering days’ hunting for auction to raise money for the Lisa Curtin Fund.

The online auction – which will run until Sunday, May 15th – includes great prizes such as days out with the Tipperary Foxhounds, Scarteen, Killinicks, Ballymacads, Grallagh Harriers, Kerry Foxhounds, South Union, The Island, Limerick Foxhounds, Duhallow and many more.

The auction also includes other great offerings such as a painting by equestrian artist James C. Byrne, vouchers for The Equine Warehouse, The Field Equestrian schooling venue, horse massage therapy, an equine photography shoot and golfing outings.

Bids can be placed online by visiting ‘Galtee Harriers & South Tipperary Harriers Lisa Curtin’s Fund’ on Facebook, where all auction items are listed, or on the phone by calling Jim Carey on 087-2643904.
