AN unassuming drive-way just outside of Bray in north Co. Wicklow leads into Festina Lente. This unique equine and horticulture learning facility employs 60 people, has almost 100 volunteers and works with 36 horses. This is a one of a kind facility providing a vast range of services to people who otherwise would be relatively excluded from the equestrian world.

Dr Jill Carey has been working at the centre since 2001 when she made a career move from St. John of God brothers. This was meant to be temporary position for Carey, however, the right opportunities arose at the right time and Carey is now CEO of Festina Lente. Carey said: “The reason I’m still here is that the opportunities were incredible, there were so many opportunities for developing the whole world of horses and people.”
