?FEED bags: The paper lining of your horse’s feed bags can be used as poultice paper! Then you can use the outer shell as a bin liner.

?Scrubbing: Using a dish brush with soap in the handle is a great way to scrub horses’ legs or buckets. For legs, fill your brush with shampoo; for buckets and feed tubs, fill with dish soap.

?Tarpaulin: Buy a large piece of tarpaulin (much cheaper than a barrow) and lay it outside the stable. Dispose of dirty bedding onto the tarpaulin and drag it to the muck-heap. Quick and easy and you can get more on. Just make sure there are no spooky horses tied up who may get a fright.

?The grate trick: First, position a wire grate (an old rack from a large barbecue grill works well for this) at a 45-degree angle against the wall. Then, pick up the bedding using a fork and fling it against the grate. The droppings will collect in a tidy mound, while the bedding will fall through the grate’s openings and onto the floor below.

?Hooves: Tie a hoof pick to the outside of the stable so you can always find it and it’s handy for picking out feet as horses come in and out.
