LEADING trainer Gavin Cromwell is among the many happy clients of John Scarff’s JS Horsetrucks.
Based in Oldtown, Co Dublin, John has been building and selling horse vans for 20 years. Before that John was transporting show jumpers for some top people all around Europe. When his father became unwell, John came home and formally established the new business in 2013.
Although he still builds horse vans to spec, John is also agent for Equita and Ameline vehicles in Ireland. He says the Ameline five-seater two-horse van is proving very popular at the moment.
“We can provide entry-level vehicles built to a good standard but we are a small company that specialises in top-of-the-range stuff,” he says. He mentions how one of the world’s leading owner-breeders recently commissioned him to build two vans at his north Co Dublin workshop and the client sent representatives to see the work being done and to add their own touches to the design.
The company also provides an excellent aftercare service. “We’re very close to Fairyhouse Racecourse so we can even carry out repairs and service while the racing is on,” John says.
