REIGNING national Grand Prix champion Vincent Byrne scored a hat-trick of wins during his visit to Lanaken in Belgium last weekend. The Kilkenny rider opened his account by winning Friday’s CSI** 1.30m two-phase class with the Irish Sport Horse Mr Rockefeller, beating Britain’s Geoff Luckett. Byrne and Mr Rockefeller tasted victory again on Saturday, winning the CSI*** 1.35m, while Byrne landed his third win on Sunday, this time in Lanaken’s CSI under-25 1.30m class riding Elaine Donoghue’s Colorado. Meanwhile Conor Drain finished sixth in the CSI*** 1.35m with Future Z, while Georgina Atock claimed the winner’s rosette in the CSI* 1.20m with Quantana 7.
