IT was clear from the outset that last Sunday’s Group 1 IDEE 152nd Deutsches Derby at Hamburg was wide open, and with several of Germany’s top-rated three-year-olds missing, including the winners of the top trials, almost any of the 20 runners could be regarded as possible winners.
