NICKNAME was a household name over jumps in France and Ireland, winning at Grade 1 level in both countries. Here in Ireland he was trained by Martin Brassil and he notched up a whole series of graded race successes. The son of Lost World was unusual in that he was a full horse and eventually he was retired to stud in France but sadly died as a 14-year-old. What he might have achieved were he to have stayed alive is a matter of conjecture but he left behind enough good winners to indicate that he would have grown in stature.

His current star is the four-year-old Frodon and he won another big prize at Cheltenham on Saturday when he captured the Grade 3 Caspian Caviar Gold Cup Handicap Chase, adding to a facile win in the Wincanton Rising Stars Novices’ Chase, a Grade 2 event.
