My Mate Mozzie is an interesting recruit to fences for Gavin Cromwell and ought to be able to get off the mark at the first time of asking. The seven-year-old is a classy operator, having finished fifth in the Irish Cesarewitch on his previous run and third in the Galway Hurdle two starts back. It’ll be interesting to see how he takes to fences but whatever the case, he has a bit of leeway on his rivals today.

Hgrance De Thaix, a wide margin winner at Galway this time last year, is interesting as well but shaped as if he might be better over further. Kiki Badger has some experience over fences already having run well enough when third to Calico at Galway. His hurdles career promised much at the start before he regressed but he may well do better over fences now.

SELECTION: MY MATE MOZZIE

Flanking Maneuver really caught the eye on his return to the track last season and can get off the mark over fences now. Noel Meade’s gelding came off a 760-day break to finish third to Churchstone Warrior in the Grade 2 Ten Up at Navan, travelling smoothly into the race before blowing up on the run in. He has a fine record fresh and clearly has the talent, so it would be no surprise if he won comfortably.

That said, this could be a nice race, with Genois unlucky not to win at Listowel after a mistake at the last and So Des Flos, unexposed over hurdles last season. La Malmason is similarly unexposed and should be better over fences - he’s a half brother to Stage Star.

SELECTION: FLANKING MANEUVER

Next best: La Malmason

Galon De Vauzelle looks the one to beat. Philip Rothwell’s gelding has finished second five times over fences, including on his latest start at Listowel, but that was another fine effort in defeat, on what his first start of the season.

Now he has race fitness on side and is fancied to build upon his good form from last season, notably finishing four lengths off Better Times Ahead in a Grade B contest at Navan last March.

Goodnightgodbless and C’est Quelqu’un both come into this in good form and are dangerous. Slight preference is for the latter mentioned, Gordon Elliott’s gelding, who arrives on a hat-trick and will have no problem with the conditions.

SELECTION: GALON DE VAUZELLE

Next best: C’est Quelqu’un

There was a lot to like about the way Meet My Loreley got off the mark in a bumper at Navan last month and she looks the one to beat on her hurdles debut.

Barry Connell’s mare showed clear improvement for her seasonal and stable debut when third at Wexford, and she showed a fine attitude to get off the mark, quickening up to take the lead but then reasserting again when challenged by the runner-up. This looks a soft heat.

Stormalong has plenty of hurdles experience which could count here while Ballybough Aine is also noted on her track debut for Paul Nolan, having won her sole four-year-old mares’ maiden on her sole point-to-point start at Monksgrange last March.

SELECTION: MEET MY LORELEY

The Dasher Conway was only just touched off in this contest last season but he arrives in much better shape this time. Gillian O’Callaghan’s gelding has been acquitting himself very well over fences, scoring at Tramore before twice placing in a couple of decent contests at Killarney. He returns to hurdles now to race off 12lb lower mark compared to his chase rating.

The same applies to Clever Currency, who found only the prolific Cave Court too good on his last hurdles start at Down Royal, and he has since won over fences at Sligo. Others to note are Dame Rapide, who won her mares’ maiden hurdle last time and has a mark of 95 on the flat, and Art Of Silence, whose Ballinrobe win over Wordsworth catches the eye now.

SELECTION: THE DASHER CONWAY

Banada Bridge and Sayitfirst came to the fore in a handicap hurdle here on Monday and they may battle out this contest as well. Preference is for the former, who has been in good form generally and he showed a fine attitude to battle back to Sayitfirst when headed. He has a 3lb weight swing now and 7lb if you account for the claim of Conor Smithers and Paddy O’Hanlon not being able to claim in this contest on Sayitfirst.

Nusra is potentially interesting. She hasn’t done much on her first five starts over hurdles but won on the flat last time out and could be a different proposition now.

SELECTION: BANADA BRIDGE

Next best: Sayitfirst

Gordon Elliott’s filly Tomavian did well to finish second to Roedora on debut at Down Royal and though only fifth of nine at Listowel on her latest start, that was a steadily run contest and she was only beaten three and a half lengths. The level of her form is probably in the same ball park as likely favourite Arctic Gale. He was second on his first start at Galway and should improve from that. Royal Cave is another filly to note having finished fourth to Fleur In The Park at Roscommon on her seasonal debut.

SELECTION: TOMAVIAN
