THE undulations of the cross-country tracks at Rosanna call for brave riding at times and so it proved in the Cooley Sport Horses EI110 (J) last Sunday when, with the faster of two double clears in the seven-runner class, Hannah Lawlor claimed the honours with her mother Aideen’s 14-year-old bay gelding, Clougheen Cody.

Only two started in the Cooley Sport Horses EI110 (P) and here there was a comfortable victory for Eva O’Neill and her mother Sarah’s Connemara gelding Woody Sammy, a seven-year-old dun by Woodfield Sammy out of the Westside Mirah mare Westside Princess.

This was a first Eventing Ireland success for the winners.

Winning dressage

Thirteen combinations contested the Trinity Motors EI100 (J) where Amelia McCarthy completed on her winning dressage score with Finsceal Endeavour.

This was a first EI start for McCarthy on her mother Zazel’s seven-year-old Metropole mare who had finished ninth in the CCI3*-S at Ballindenisk in April under Amanda Goldsbury.

The Connemara stallion Woodfield Sammy sired a second winner on the day through his son How Ya Sammy who, in the hands of Sarah Kehoe, recorded the only double clear to land the six-strong Trinity Motors EI100 (P). This six-year-old bay gelding is out of the Robe Earl mare, Robe Cheeky Lass.

Connemaras dominated the 10-strong Mercedes-Benz EI90 (P) but none more so than Clive Corrigan’s six-year-old All Smoke gelding Fortane Silver Fox who recorded his second success of the season under the owner’s daughter, Kate.
