WHILE this Sunday’s three point-to-points have been bolstered by their position as the final three fixtures of the autumn 2020 season, it is fair to say that outside of the booming four-year-old maiden division, entries in almost all other race categories have been underwhelming for the past two months.

This will be most disappointing for the sport’s authorities as they are the categories that have been the focus of financial boosts, with prize money increasing up to €1,750 in increments over the last number of years. Hopefully in time, this extra prize money will begin to attract additional horses to these older-horse races, but it is now time for the authorities to think outside of the box in search of solutions.
