BRITISH Dressage List 1 judge Richard Baldwin paid another visit to Ireland last weekend when he shared the judging duties at the Eastern Region’s show in Marlton with the home-based pair of Dressage Ireland board member Jane Whitaker (List 3a) and Mairin Cassidy (List 4).

Baldwin judged 10 classes including both the Para Grade II Grand Prix A and Grand Prix B where, on board her 16-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare Jazzland, the sole competitor, Gráinne Hallahan, was awarded scores of 67.24% and 66% respectively. Riding her 15-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding De Keizer KN, Jenny Heffernan also won twice before Baldwin, seeing off one rival to win the Prix St George (64.85) while recording an uncontested victory in the Intermediate I (68.38).

The day’s most successful rider was David Freeney who topped the scores in three classes and posted the second highest in another.

In the Baldwin-judged 13-runner DI Novice N21, Category 3 rider Freeney claimed the honours with Stephen Byrne’s Dutch Warmblood gelding CLS Illusion (71.03%) before partnering that Wynton 10-year-old to finish second (75.96) in the Mairin Cassidy-judged five-strong BD Novice 39 to Niamh Winter on Josephine Delahoyde’s eight-year-old piebald mare, Marlton Rose (76.15).

Freeney scored twice before the same two judges at Elementary level with another 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding belonging to Byrne, CLS Icon.

Cassidy awarded Freeney and the Johnson bay a score of 77.36% in the DI52, in which there were nine starters, while the combination achieved a mark of 69.69 in front of Baldwin in the six-runner BD59.

There were nine starters in the two Preliminary classes, the first of which, the DI6, was judged by Cassidy who reserved her top score of 75.77% for Category 1 rider Amelia Cobbe riding the ISH mare DMS That Jazz.

The seven-year-old bay is by Tolan R out of Quality Lass, by OBOS Quality 004.

Baldwin’s highest score in the BD19, 67.50, was awarded to Mary Fenelon Bourke on her ISH mare Enniskerry Trendy, a 14-year-old daughter of Tinaranas Inspector.

This Region’s next show takes place on Sunday, May 14th.
