Fortuna Favente, a half-sister to graded horses Appreciate It and Danny Kirwan, may be good enough to make a winning debut. The Barry Connell-trained five-year-old lacks racecourse experience but is sure to be well schooled ahead of this initial outing. With those that have already run appearing somewhat limited, it would be disappointing if she can’t go close.

Artemis Angel ran her best race to date when second to a subsequent winner at Killarney last month. Now making her first start for new connections, the daughter of Fame And Glory has to be a leading contender.

An Mhi is hard to get away from on his bid for a four-timer. Gordon Elliott’s six-year-old had solid placed form prior to finishing mid-division in a Grade B handicap hurdle at Leopardstown in February. However, since returning to action earlier this season, the Walk In The Park gelding has won three-in-a-row for connections. Given that steady rate of improvement, he may not be done with just yet.

Stablemate Gordons Aura could be a serious threat in receipt of weight from the older horses. With the in-form Danny Gilligan claiming an additional 5lb, the four-year-old has every chance.

Fassbender has shown little worthwhile form for over a year but Mark McNiff’s seven-year-old can never be discounted at this venue. With two wins and two seconds here, the Famous Name gelding just seems to come to life when he encounters the unique inclines. In a contest where few appeal, he is almost certain to at least run his race.

Crafty Gael shaped well behind a well handicapped subsequent winner at Wexford last month, so has to hold a serious chance if taking to this track at the first time of asking.

Theonewedreamof disappointed on the flat at Galway recently but is worth another chance to exploit a more lenient mark over hurdles. A winner at Punchestown last January, Gavin Cromwell’s mare showed she acted around this track when runner-up here in May. The key to her chances now could be stepping up in trip for the first time.

Howaya C D And E, who finished runner-up over course and distance last month, has never been out of the frame in four visits to this track. It would be no surprise to see another big run from the eight-year-old.

Gentle And Kind should appreciate the step up in trip here having gone close on her racecourse debut at Kilbeggan last month. The Henry de Bromhead-trained mare is entitled to come on from that outing as she had been absent since winning her point-to-point at Tipperary in April 2021. With no stamina issues on her part the seven-year-old can begin to make up for lost time.

Rule The Wind is the most obvious alternative for Willie Mullins and Brian Hayes. The five-year-old was runner-up in a maiden hurdle at Tipperary earlier this year but has failed to progress on two subsequent runs.

Nuttorridge, who didn’t enjoy the best of fortune when runner-up to a subsequent winner last time, can gain a deserved success. The eight-year-old’s only two previous wins have both come at this track, so he clearly reserves his best for here. Given a clearer passage on this occasion, the Mark McNiff-trained gelding can complete a course hat-trick.

Across The Ocean has yet to show anything in four runs over hurdles but the four-year-old should be noted now that he steps up in trip on his first start in handicap company.

Uncle Pat, a full-brother to Grade 1 placed Adamantly Chosen, catches the eye on racecourse debut. Willie Mullins does exceptionally well with his bumper runners at this track and the five-year-old is sure to know his job here. Both siblings who have made the track won first-time out so that too increases confidence in the gelding.

Kalanisi Flash went close here in May, before disappointing at Kilbeggan on his next run. The John McConnell-trained gelding is best judged on the former effort. A dual point-to-point winner, the six-year-old should prove a difficult opponent.

SELECTION: UNCLE PAT
