This doesn’t look an overly deep race and it might present a chance for Pallas Athene to get off the mark, if able to rediscover her best form. She’s been disappointing lately but hails from a top stable and the ground could be more in her favour now than last time.

Lady Bluebird won a bumper at Punchestown two starts ago before being safely held in a competitive maiden hurdle back at the same venue. If able to bounce back to her best, she will be in the mix. Milanaway doesn’t exactly look to be improving but is another who might appreciate this better ground than she’s met lately. Her experience is a help in this company.

SELECTION: PALLAS ATHENE

O’Faolains Glory has hinted at winning potential on a few occasions and probably didn’t have the race unfold to ideally suit last time here. Cheekpieces are fitted for the first time and she races off bottom-weight, so she could be worth giving a chance to.

Gamigin’s form is more encouraging, winning at Ayr and here in December before a recent third at Leopardstown. He keeps creeping up the weights but has solid claims. Jacenry won here last time and commands respect too, albeit a 7lb hike for winning by a nose isn’t ideal.

SELECTION: O’FAOLAINS GLORY

El Capitane could prove well handicapped off a mark of 112, albeit plenty of improvement is required from his last run at Navan. That said, he was easy to back on that occasion and was entitled to come on for the run after 399 days off.

He ran well in a useful Leopardstown maiden hurdle last season and also was unfortunate to bump into Buddy One and Harvard Guy in a maiden hurdle for horses who had run three times and had yet to be placed at Fairyhouse.

Dgalwaygallivantor has no issue dealing with testing ground and ran well on heavy at Gowran five weeks ago. He needs to keep improving to prove he’s still got something to work with from his mark of 101, and perhaps the step up to this trip for the first time will help him in that regard. Pipers Boreen comes here in good form and is entitled to be fighting it out if maintaining her consistent run.

SELECTION: EL CAPITANE

It looks as though stepping up in distance will be a considerable positive for A Great Buzz on the evidence of what she showed last time when third at Cork over two and a half miles.

She got a little further back than might have been ideal in a 20-runner affair but did some good late work and now has the benefit of two handicap runs under her girth. As an unexposed type, she might well have more to come off a mark of 93.

Doonbeg Don is another maiden with low mileage and has the chance to be better than an introductory rating of 95. He hasn’t been seen since Christmas when it was disappointing he couldn’t show a little more in a weak race. Perhaps better ground will help him here. Mahler Appeal and Tankardstown Diva aren’t out of the question either.

SELECTION: A GREAT BUZZ

Given he was operating over a trip that was well below his best, it was a fine first start over fences from Now Is The Hour at Cork over Easter when second to Summer Tide. He won a weak Grade 2 novice hurdle over an extended three miles on heavy ground at Haydock, so his stamina is absolutely assured over much further than last time.

Provided he’s not feeling the effects of a series of races in testing conditions, he should be hard to beat here - now back up to two and a half miles.

Duffle Coat has put two solid runs back to back over fences and has no issue with demanding ground. Bardenstown Lad was found to be lame after pulling up at Fairyhouse in January and is difficult to predict. His ‘A’ game would be enough to give these a serious rattle but the market is probably worth a check given the stable is also represented by Now Is The Hour.

SELECTION: NOW IS THE HOUR

He comes with some risks attached after being found to have blood at the nostrils when beaten here in November but Womalko might still be on a workable mark and could help Jack Kennedy in his push towards the jockeys’ championship. The track, trip and ground should suit if he’s sharp enough after 156 days off.

Don’t Talk won twice over hurdles over the winter and went on to be promoted to a mark of 108 in that sphere. That makes him likely attractively handicapped off 92 back over fences, though he doesn’t have bundles of experience in this sphere - just two runs in chases (pulled up in one).

SELECTION: WOMALKO

Returning to the same course and distance as a previous win here in May of last year ought to bring out the best in The Abbey, who ran an encouraging race over an insufficient trip at Leopardstown last time. He came home well for fourth in that listed event and drops significantly in class now. It must be said that he’s getting on in years at 11 but he travelled with enthusiasm last time and should go well.

Atacanter moved closer to the target last time when second at Limerick and this longer trip looks worth a try. This is a different test to when winning a claiming hurdle last time for Robinstown, though he does have three-mile form on testing ground.

SELECTION: THE ABBEY
