1.20 Tally Ho Stud Irish

EBF Maiden 6f

Aidan O’Brien has won this maiden with Group 1 winners twice in the last four years, Arizona and Unquestionable, so Henri Matisse is worth paying some attention to this time. A half-brother to Tenebrism and Statuette by Wootton Bassett, he makes plenty of appeal on paper.

Cadogan, a 100,000gns yearling by Farhh, received a positive mention from Joseph O’Brien at a press morning earlier this week. Mehmas colt Red Evolution is a half-brother to River Tiber and cost 300,000gns at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale, so must be taken seriously for Michael O’Callaghan.

SELECTION: HENRI MATISSE

Next best: Red Evolution

1.55 Gain Marble Hill Stakes

(In Memory Of Theresa Marnane) (Group 3) 6f

There was lots to like about how Camille Pissarro made a winning debut at Navan last month. A Wootton Bassett colt who is a half-brother to Commonwealth Cup winner Golden Horde, he’s bred to be a blacktype performer. He is already priced between 9/4 and 100/30 at the top of the market for the Coventry Stakes.

Midnight Strike impressed when beating Treasure Isle on debut here last month, and that form has been enhanced since.

SELECTION: CAMILLE PISSARO

Greenlands Stakes (Group 2) 6f

His lack of a recent run isn’t ideal but Regional signed off last season with a career-best performance to win the Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock in September and has form on decent ground. He won on his comeback last season, admittedly at a lesser level than this, and is bound to go close if sharp enough after his layoff. Shouldvebeenaring, second in the Sprint Cup, has the advantage of two runs already this term. He commands respect after a near miss at York last week.

SELECTION: REGIONAL

Next best: Shouldvebeenaring

3.05 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Orby Stakes (Listed) 1m 4f

William Haggas has a terrific record when bringing runners to Ireland for blacktype races and Candleford looks to have an excellent chance of enhancing that statistic if ready enough to run to his best after a break. He bolted up in the 2022 Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot after a 219-day break and loves a sound surface, so conditions should play to his strengths.

Sumiha showed a fair deal of ability in defeat when an unlucky-looking second in the Noblesse Stakes on her reappearance at Cork, her first start after winning a maiden on debut last season. If able to prove as effective on ground as quick as this, she’ll be bang there.

SELECTION: CANDLEFORD

Next best: Sumiha

4.15 Infinite Energy Handicap 1m 2f

Johnny Murtagh won this race two years ago and was second in it a year before that - his runners in these types of handicaps at the Curragh are usually worth a second look.

It was a solid effort from his Take Heart when second at Cork four weeks ago and he returns now in first-time cheekpieces. If able to cope with a poor draw in stall 14, he should be in the mix.

Slieve Binnian was out of luck in Bahrain when running during the European off-season but looked progressive prior to that at Dundalk and it’s interesting to see Ronan Whelan rides him over stablemate Chally Chute.

SELECTION: TAKE HEART

Next best: Slieve Binnian

4.50 Finlay Volvo Handicap 7f

Probably one of the trickiest contests on the card, and a tentative vote goes to Monasterboice, whose 18-runner maiden third behind Zaynab and Igor Stravinsky was a decent effort. He probably wasn’t as effective back at six furlongs last time.

Nerano has been campaigned exclusively at Dundalk but is unexposed and worth a shot at this type of race. Follow Me has smart French form and made a winning stable debut for the in-form Ross O’Sullivan team here last time.

SELECTION: MONASTERBOICE

Next best: Nerano

5.25 McDonnells Bar Newbridge Irish EBF Maiden 1m 2f

Conditions will be much better than when Raydamann made his debut in a Leopardstown maiden last October, and while there is certainly improvement required from that mid-field finish, he is bred to be a smart performer.

Jan Brueghel is a brother to Irish Derby winner Sovereign and Queen Alexandra Stakes scorer Dawn Rising, so will probably get further. With the Jessica Harrington-Shane Foley combination in such excellent form, Trethorn could be a player too as a Dubawi colt out of connections’ 10-furlong listed winner Trethias.

SELECTION: RAYDAMANN

Next best: Trethorn
