THE Irish equestrian scene is absolutely buzzing this June bank holiday weekend with two major international events, showcasing eventing and show jumping, in full swing at Millstreet and Mullingar Equestrian Centre.

It’s the post-Covid boost that the Irish equestrian industry needs and it would not be happening but for the dedication and commitment of two of the most prominent equestrian families in Ireland, backed up their hard-working teams and a bevy of great sponsors.

The Duggan family this week welcomed over 320 horses to Green Glens for a feast of top-class eventing action, with many of the sport’s top names competing in the Millstreet International Horse Trials at their stunning Drishane Castle.

Thomas Duggan and his team have worked flat out, asides from creating fantastic new living facilities for 300 Ukrainian war-torn refugees who now call Millstreet home, Green Glens is sparkling on all fronts for the world-class action. Sally Parkyn and Margie McLoone will be bringing you top coverage from the Millstreet International Horse Trials in next week’s issue.

Robert Fagan, his family and their team of 120 have worked around the clock to bring us all Mullingar International CSI2* and some 600 horses and ponies will be on site this weekend. Mullingar International provides both a vital showcase for national riders of all ages and levels, as well as giving talented riders the chance to earn world ranking points on their home turf.

With over €100,000 in prize money across 50 classes, the Fagan family have been bowled over by the massive support they have received from sponsors and supporters, new and established, to ensure a top-class weekend of show jumping.

Over the last year, the Fagans have continued to improve their facilities with new stabling, arena resurfacing and their flagship new pavillion which will come into its own this weekend.

Roisin Sheridan and Emer Bermingham will be bringing you top coverage of Mullingar International in next week’s packed paper.

Enjoy a great June bank holiday weekend of equestrian sport on our home shores.
