CHARLES O’Brien was partially successful in his appeal against ‘non-trier’ penalties imposed on him and his horse Pavilion End at Punchestown on October 15th. After the horse finished fifth of 13 in a maiden hurdle, the acting stewards found that jockey Gearoid Brouder had made insufficient effort and suspended him for 14 days. O’Brien was fined €3,000 and the horse was suspended from racing for 60 days.

Brouder did not appeal but O’Brien was successful in having the fine lifted. The trainer, who was not present on the raceday, told the Appeals Body “he has seen better rides and worse rides but for 80% of the race he was satisfied with the ride his horse got. But, having seen all the integrity camera footage, he was dissatisfied in the closing stages.”

The 60-day ban on the horse was confirmed.
