Performance Sale: 11am. 124 lots.

Last year’s top lot: Maralees Carey’s Higgins’ 6yo gelding by Anbally Storm (dam by Heigh Ho Dubh) €19,000.

AS the sales’ action moves to the north of the country, Cavan is due to stage its third renewal of the year on Wednesday. Having enjoyed two very strong recent editions, connections will be hoping for more of the same, and offer a mixed catalogue of around 124 lots. Nearly a third of these are ponies, while the remainder is divided into older stock, four-year-olds and three-year-olds.

The list of covering sires is also varied, and standing out with four lots apiece are the sadly deceased Cobra 18, the thoroughbred sire Gamut, Numero Cruise and the enduringly popular Sligo Candy Boy.

Ponies

Lot 8 Ormond Kestral, reg 9yo gr m 128cms. One for a child just beginning a competitive career, Kestral is a grade B jumping pony with a total of 165 SJI points. An easy ride to a fence, and with a fantastic canter, she has been predominately campaigned in the under 10 classes, but is described as having the ability to go further. Currently ridden by a seven-year-old child, she has also hunted for several seasons.

Lot 14 Cool Duchess, reg 7yo pd m 128cms. Another of the smallest of the species, Duchess sports a smart record. Having clocked up 171 SJI points, she headed both the winter league final at the Woodlands Equestrian Centre, and also 80cm spring league final at Garranemore Equestrian. A scopey individual, she is thought to be an ideal candidate for the six and seven-year-old RDS qualifiers this summer.

Lot 35 Glenlo Silverstrand Annie, reg 5yo gr m 148cms by Gentle Charlie out of King Bunowen Castle Lady (Inverin Rocky). This good hunting mare has whipped in for the Leitrim Harriers.
