LAST weekend was a pretty poor on in Britain in terms of quality but the Sandown card featured the Listed Coral Scurry Stakes for three-year-old over five furlongs and it went to the Irish-bred Mitbaahy, bred by Nicky Hartery and a half-brother to his Grade 1-winning filly Going Global, now competing at the top level in the US.

The Roger Varian-trained colt is owned by Hasan Mefareh Alajmi & Fawzi Nass and came through under David Egan to beat Live In The Dream by a length and a half.

Sailsbury last Sunday produced a few performances worth noting for the future with the Listed British Stallion Studs EBF Cathedral Stakes over six furlongs going to 9/2 shot Benefit who beat the 6/5 favourite Nahaarr by a length for John Fahy and trainer Clive Cox.

The Cheveley Park Stud-owned and -bred daughter of Aclamation was a dual winner at two.

The most eye-catching winner though, was the Richard Hannon-trained two-year-old Minnetonka, an Irish-bred daughter of Kingman, who took the six furlong Byerley Stud Peter & Virginia Walwyn Memorial Novice Stakes by a hugely impressive seven lengths under Pat Dobbs on her debut.

Griezman scores a Guineas win

FRANCE’S soccer international star Antoine Griezman made the sports newspaper headlines in Germany last weekend when he owned the winner of the Group 2 Wempe 102nd German 1000 Guineas.

The Siyouni filly Txope prevailed by three-quarters of a length in the mile classic, beating Mylady who had gone off favourite for the Mehl-Mulhens-Rennen (German 2000 Guineas) on May 22nd.

This was her fourth run of the season for the winner and she ran no less eight times at two for two wins. Aurelien Lemaitre was on board for winning trainer Phillipe Decouz.

The Harry & Roger Charlton-trained filly Jumbly was the unplaced favourite under Kieran Shoemark.

France

Raclette returns to winning ways

THERE was no luck in France at ParisLongchamp last weekend for the few Irish-trained raiders.

Jessica Harrington sent two challengers and the better of which was Viareggio’s third place in the Listed Prix Melisande over a mile and two for three-year-old fillies. The race saw a return to the winner’s enclosure for the highly regarded Andre Fabre-trained Raclette under Olivier Peslier. The Frankel filly was winning on her third start of the season.

Viareggio led under Stephane Pasquier but was pressed and ridden along two out out, she kept on in the final furlong to take third of the eight runners, with the Aga Khan’s favourite Tariyana in second.

Harrington also ran Nectaris in the Listed Prix Volterra over a mile for three-year-old fillies but the horse could only manage fourth to Samahram, a Sea The Moon filly trained by Francis-Henri Graffard for Al Shaqab Racing.

The Joseph O’Brien-trained Voice Of Angels could only place seventh.

The Group 3 La Coupe for older horses over a mile and two went to Peslier again, this time on Monty, a seven-year-old Motivator gelding.
