BRED by Godolphin and foaled in Ireland when his dam Najoum (Giant’s Causeway) was visiting Teofilo (Galileo), the four-year-old gelding Lord North is enjoying a meteoric rise in racing fortunes. From winning the Cambridgeshire last autumn and going on to end his three-year-old season with a listed victory at Newmarket, he is now a Group 1 winner and he may not have yet reached his peak.

A fine advertisement for the benefits of being gelded, which happened after a disappointing effort on his third juvenile start after being difficult at the start, he is now winner of six of his nine starts, and finishing second twice. His win in the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes – beating two other geldings – credited his sire, Darley’s world-class flagbearer Dubawi (Dubai Millennium), with his 42nd Group 1 winner.
