TEN well-related horses owned by the late owner/breeder Niall Farrell headline Monday's Goffs Summer Sale, which takes place in Doncaster from 11am. Mill House Stud consign the dispersal, which features Protektrice (Lot 122), a winning half-sister to the top-class Protektorat, in foal to Jack Hobbs.

The daughter of dual listed winner Protektion will be sold with a filly foal by Golden Horn; the sire of the mare’s last two foals which sold for €45,000 and £36,000. Bitumen Belle (Lot 123), herself an Oscar half-sister to the dams of Death Duty and Bambino Fever, will also be sold with a Golden Horn filly at foot.

Her yearling filly by Jack Hobbs is catalogued as Lot 144. A three-year-old Nathaniel sister to a blacktype performer and a two-year-old Golden Horn filly are other notable young stock in the dispersal.

Mill House Stud consigned the Chris Giles last year, featuring the record-breaking top lot Regent’s Stroll. Paul Nicholls and Tom Malone gave £660,000 for the then unbeaten five-year-old, who was offered as part of the Chris Giles Dispersal, as was the same buyers’ £325,000 purchase Stay Away Fay.

The pair were the top spenders at £1,422,000, and the 11-horse dispersal generated £1.9 million. French mare July Flower was another highlight 12 months ago, bringing £350,000 from Henry de Bromhead. Of the 188 lots offered last year, 71% sold for an average price of £27,187, which marked a 139% increase on the previous year. The median grew by 64% to £9,000.

Successful graduates

Regent’s Stroll since took to hurdling and was last seen finishing a close second in the Grade 1 Mersey Novices’ Hurdle. Stablemate Rubaud won a Grade 2 chase since Malone and Nicholl paid £200,000 to retain him for Giles’ previous co-owner Brendan McManus.

Master Chewy was another graduate to advertise the Summer Sale last season, landing a listed hurdle, the Grade 2 Wayward Lad Hurdle and Grade 2 Game Spirit Chase for Nigel Twiston-Davies. The Walk In The Park gelding was led out unsold at £24,000 as a three-year-old, when offered by Ballincurrig House Stud on behalf of Heathview Stables.

Monday's catalogue features 52 stores, with sires including Golden Horn, Mahler, Nathaniel, Passing Glance, Sholokhov, Soldier Of Fortune and Yeats. Eighty horses-in-training and point-to-pointers have been entered by the likes of Dan Skelton, Harry Derham, Jonjo and A.J. O’Neill, Paul Nolan, Richard Hannon, Sir Mark Prescott and Stuart Crawford.

Possible highlights include Pigeon Forge (Lot 24), who justified favouritism by 10 lengths last time out in a four-year-old mares’ maiden at Necarne. Colin Bowe’s Well Chosen mare was third on her prior start, with the winner subsequently selling for €140,000 and second for €100,000.

Connies Hill (Lot 54) is also offered off the back of a win on her most recent start, having placed on debut. The Jim O’Neill-trained daughter of Notnowcato got off the mark at Ballindenisk in May.

Plenty of promise

Of those who have run under rules, I’m A Believer (Lot 53) stands out, having won two of this three starts in bumpers for Nigel Twiston-Davies and claimed runner-up honours on his other attempt.

Tim Vaughan’s offering Bumpy Evans (Lot 49) comes in a similar vein of form, with his four chase starts yielding three wins and one second, with an additional two point-to-point wins to his name.

Dan Skelton’s eight-year-old Doyouknowwhatimean (Lot 36) has also got the hang of chasing, winning or placing on his last four starts. The four-time winner was last seen finishing third in a Class 2 chase at Uttoxeter.

Anthony McCann is among the Irish trainers consigning and offers three-time winner Rockstown Girl (Lot 30), who was listed and Grade 2-placed in bumpers. Patrick and Eddie Harty’s Voodoo Angel (Lot 67) is a half-sister to Grade 1 hurdler Emitom and the six-year-old was last seen finishing second on hurdle debut.

Stuart Crawford offers the five-year-old gelding Watch Hill (Lot 68) following a promising second on rules debut in a Clonmel bumper, with the winner since following up.

Stablemate Bleu d’Enfer (Lot 43) looks open to further progression after winning a Class 3 handicap chase at Carlisle last time out.
