FROM a young age, I have always had a deep passion for horses.
Born on the Isle of Wight in England, and coming from a non-equestrian background, I pursued every opportunity to immerse myself in the industry. After completing my GCSEs, I made the decision to move to Gloucestershire to study for an Extended Diploma in Equine Performance, while continuing to compete in dressage with my horses.
It was during this time that I was introduced to the racing industry and began to understand the wide range of career opportunities available within it.
To further my knowledge and gain a comprehensive understanding of the sector, I completed a BSc (Hons) in Bloodstock and Equine Performance at the Royal Agricultural University. This degree offered valuable insights into various aspects of the racing industry, including finance, bloodstock, breeding, and performance. It was through this academic experience, placement opportunities and electives that I discovered my particular interest in marketing, a field where I could combine creativity with a deep-rooted passion for the racing industry.
Irish trip
In my third year at university, I had the opportunity to take part in a racing industry trip to Ireland. This trip provided an in-depth look at several leading organisations within the Irish racing sector and was where I first learned about the ITBA Next Generation Internship.
I was inspired by the initiative and excited by the prospect of gaining real-world industry experience. I was delighted to be accepted into the programme, with my first placement being at Tattersalls Ireland.
My time as a marketing intern at Tattersalls Ireland has been both rewarding and transformative. Working in a fast-paced, professional environment, I have gained hands-on experience that has significantly deepened my understanding of marketing within the bloodstock, racing, and sales industries.
I have contributed to a variety of marketing campaigns, supported event planning, and engaged with both digital and traditional marketing strategies. This internship has enabled me to develop a range of technical skills, including content creation, social media and analysis, while also allowing me to grow professionally by working alongside a highly experienced and supportive team.
My time at Tattersalls Ireland has been a foundational experience in my career, solidifying my ambition to pursue a future in marketing within the equine and racing industries.
Record-breaking sale
Being part of the September Yearling Sale was an incredible and unforgettable experience, especially as it was a record-breaking event for Tattersalls Ireland. Throughout the process, I gained valuable insights into the world of sales, from the planning and organisation behind the scenes. This experience has provided me with lifelong skills and knowledge that I will carry with me as I continue to build my career.
We are now in preparation for the 2026 Breeze-Up Sale, designing brochures and materials. At the same time, we’re preparing for the Sapphire Sale, which this year will take place on its new date, December 16th.
I will be with Tattersalls Ireland through to the Dublin Racing Festival and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity. Each day offers a new chance to learn, contribute, and grow within a company that plays such a pivotal role in the global racing community.
I am thrilled to share that my next placement will be with Coolmore. This opportunity marks another exciting step in my professional journey, allowing me to continue learning from some of the very best in the field.
I would like to sincerely thank the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association (ITBA) for their continued support and for providing me with these incredible opportunities to grow and develop within the industry.
