THE four-day Tattersalls July Sale starts on Tuesday and features high class consignments from leading owner-breeders including Cheveley Park Stud, Godolphin, Juddmonte and Shadwell.

This sale traditionally attracts buyers from all over the world with Middle Eastern purchasers making a big impression in recent years.

There are approximately 800 horses and fillies in/out of training and 100 broodmares, some of which have foals at foot.

The big four of Cheveley Park Stud, Godolphin, Juddmonte and Shadwell (consigning through Barton Sales) have close to 100 lots catalogued between them, while the broodmares on offer include mares in foal to proven Group 1 sires Aclaim, Ardad, Bungle Inthejungle, Churchill, Cotai Glory, Cracksman, Dandy Man, Dream Ahead, Havana Gold, Kodiac, Make Believe, Mehmas, Nathaniel, Saxon Warrior, Sea The Moon, Showcasing, Sir Percy, Starspangledbanner, Teofilo and Wootton Bassett.

Young sires are equally well represented with mares in foal to champions Baaeed and Ghaiyyath, and Group 1 winners Blackbeard, Earthlight, Hello Youmzain, Kameko, Lucky Vega, Mohaather, Naval Crown, Perfect Power, Pinatubo, Space Blues, St Mark’s Basilica, Starman and Stradivarius.

Several stallions impressing with their first crop of runners are also represented with mares in foal to Blue Point, Calyx, Invincible Army, Land Force, Ten Sovereigns and Too Darn Hot all likely to attract attention.

The Godolphin draft at the July Sale is always highly sought after and this year’s consignment looks set to be no exception.

It includes Group 2 Lancashire Oaks winner Pomology, dam of Group 3 winner and Group 1 placed Goldspur, in foal to Ghaiyyath.

They are joined by several beautifully bred fillies out of training including Evening Hush, a daughter of Galileo and dual Group/Grade 1 winner Wuheida, and Catch A Star, a Cracksman three-parts sister to Group 1 winner Dream Castle and Group 2 winner With The Moonlight, as well as daughters of top broodmare sires Shamardal and Dubawi.

Juddmonte Farms will offer fillies in training from some of its most illustrious families including Source, a Kingman full-sister to Grade 1 runner-up Masen out of a daughter of dual Grade 1 winner Intercontinental, herself a daughter of the great Hasili.

There’s also Angelica K, a Mastercraftsman filly out of a sister to Group 1 winners Passage Of Time and Timepiece.

Last year’s leading consignor the Castlebridge Consignment will offer a sizeable draft of 165 lots including Over The Rainbow, a daughter of Dubawi and Irish Oaks winner Seventh Heaven offered in foal to St Mark’s Basilica.

Castlebridge also offers Akria, a half-sister to Group 3 Prix Greffulhe winner Greenland offered in foal to that horse’s sire Saxon Warrior.

They will be joined by several smart fillies in training including the Group 3 winner Basil Martini and Different Light, a Galileo full-sister to Grade 1 winner Deauville.

Among the highlights of Cheveley Park Stud’s draft is Sylvia Beach, a half-sister to three-time Group 1 winner Advertise offered in foal to his sire Showcasing, while Baroda Stud will offer Pansy, a Frankel full-sister to listed winner Hidden Dimples offered in foal to Wootton Bassett.

Similarly well related is WH Bloodstock’s Sweet And Lovely, a Galileo full-sister to the Irish Oaks winner Seventh Heaven and a half-sister to the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes winner Crusade, offered in foal to Wootton Bassett.

Three-year-olds colts catalogued with high class form include Captain Winters, winner of the Listed Heron Stakes on his most recent start for trainer Kevin Ryan.

The listed race winner and Group 3 placed Prince Of Pillo will be consigned by Jamie Railton, while Alpha Capture, winner of the Listed Rockingham Stakes, will be offered by William Haggas’ Somerville Lodge.

Jim Bolger’s Glebe House Stables will consign 11 lots, including the three-year-olds Young Ireland and Serious Challenge, who finished second and fourth respectively in a hot 12-furlong listed race at Roscommon on Tuesday.

By New Approach, Young Ireland finsihed third in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes last season.

The 97-rated Serious Challenge also has good juvenile firm, having placed fourth in the Group 2 Champions Juvenile Stakes behind Auguste Rodin.

Bolger is also selling the progressive 99-rated New Variant, twice a winner already this season and a horse who competed in listed company on his most recent two starts.

Juddmonte Farms will offer several promising lightly raced colts, led by the Dermot Weld-trained Sligo winner Blazing Sunset, who didn’t take well to blinkers when last of seven at Roscommon this week.

The Castlebridge Consignment’s Alzahir, a three-year-old rated 100 for trainers John and Thady Gosden, and Sir Michael Stoute’s lightly raced four-year-old Migdam are among the other eye-catching lots.

High class lots amongst the fillies in training include Barton Sales’ Spanish Honey, a listed winner at Hanover this season, and the Group 3 runner-up Shelton who will be consigned by Jamie Railton.

Late entry for promising Limerick maiden winner

ETHICAL Diamond is one of three very interesting wildcard entries for the July Sale revealed this week.

Trained by Michael O’Meara, the three-year-old Awtaad gelding has only raced three times, improving markedly on each start including when winning a 12-furlong maiden at Limerick last month by a comfortable two lengths on a drying surface.

Timeform rated the performance 90p and the horse now has an official Irish handicap mark of 88.

High class two-year-old colt I Am Invictus has also been added. Trained by Michael O’Callaghan, the son of Cotai Glory finished a running-on fourth in the Group 2 Railway Stakes over six furlongs at the Curragh last Sunday. He’s a maiden after three starts but has a rating of 93.

The other late entry is White Jasmine, a four-year-old full-sister to this year’s Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes winner Khaadem who will be the first mare in foal to outstanding champion Baaeed ever to be offered for sale.

A daughter of Dark Angel, White Jasmine is also a full-sister to high class two-year-old Log Out Island, a listed winner and five times group placed including when runner up in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes and Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes.

Baaeed is by Sea The Stars and he covered an exceptional book of mares at a stud fee of £80,000 in his first season at Shadwell’s Nunnery Stud.
