THE final of Hastings three spring Group 1 races, the Livamol Classic, was abandoned on Saturday shortly after the the Group 2 Hawkes Bay Guineas after the runner-up Bostonian slipped and fell as the field pulled-up after the race. Four races were completed before the Hawkes Bay Guineas which was won by the Gary Vile-trained Hard Merchandize. The decision threw the Caulfield Cup plans of Gingernuts into disarray. The New Zealand Derby winner was a $17 chance.

“By missing a run on Saturday, it means he won’t be ready for the Caulfield Cup or the Melbourne Cup after that so we have had to shift to Plan B,” said Te Akau Racing’s David Ellis. “We are going to wait and see what decision is taken with rescheduling the Livamol and if it fits in he will remain here to contest the race before heading over to Melbourne to run in the Emirates Stakes.”
