‘FAR from the madding crowd’, to borrow a phrase from Thomas Hardy, Irish apprentice Tom Sherry put his 3kg claim to good use landing a double at Nowra last Saturday. Situated on the New South Wales south coast, Sherry got Writing Unexpected for John Steinmetz, and The Pharoah for Richard Litt home, as well as a third place from his five rides.

Sherry is off to a good start in Australia getting his first winner on his third ride while being aligned with the stable of Mark Newham who prepares the Derby favourite Shadow Hero, as well as working alongside the state’s leading apprentice Robbie Dolan.
