CAULFIELD

JOHNNY Allen once again proved a man for all seasons piloting the Darren Weir-trained Cliff’s Edge to a three-length win in the Group 3 Ladbrokes Classic on Saturday with a superbly judged front-running ride. Valued at A$350,000, the 2,000 metre set-weights event for three-year-olds is a key lead-in for the Victoria Derby, for whom the Canford Cliffs colt is now favourite. Almost faultless, Allen’s ride caught the attention of the stewards, which resulted in a 10-meeting suspension for not allowing sufficient room when crossing the field at the 1,500-metre mark when seeking the lead.
