THE Equestrian Interschools season commenced last weekend with a well-supported show at Wexford Equestrian. All classes were on offer and competitions ran both outdoor and indoor.

The team events, which were held indoors, commenced with the primary teams. Kilmore NS Green had a comprehensive victory over Mayglass National School in second and the combined team from Tagoat ND Our Lady’s Island in third. Rosie Scallan riding Annie, Ciara Sarsfield with Jimmy, Anna Sarsfield on James, and Ted Cousins on King made up the winning team.

The three-man team of Lucy Day (Dolly), Aoife Robinson (Cott’s Polly), Liam Robinson (Holly Berry) were the runners-up for Mayglass. Bethany Nolan (Blackie), Sarah Petitt (Chocolate Cookie), Aoife Murphy (Phoebe) and Faye Howlin (Trickie Stephen D) made up the Tagoat ND Our Lady’s Island team in third.

Meanwhile, in the outdoor primary action continued with the two primary individual classes on offer. The 55cm class was won in fine style by Caim NS representative Kate Jones on Flamin Nora, while the 75cm class, which is an EII league class, went to Our Lady’s Island’s Aoife Murphy riding her team pony Phoebe, who gained the all important 10 points towards the league final.

Novice competition

The novice events followed with 12 teams lining up to take on the 80 to 85cm track. The red rosette and league points were claimed by local school Loreto Wexford Red riders Ava Murphy on My Bay Bouncer, Ashleigh Durack riding Joy, Sarah Cousins on Midnight Willow and Kate Jordan on Hobbinstown Hero.

The Gorey Community School team of Amber Farrell on Daisy Daisy, Lily Gallagher on Mystic Magic, Alexandra Cassidy riding Peppard’s Castledonnie and Tabetha Mc Gee on Epona finished second.

Colaiste Lorcain Castledermot made their journey worthwhile to claim third place and league points. Their team was Keeva Dooley (Treasure Hunt), Aibha Dunn (Lord Art), Ashleigh Wall (Diamond Clover) and Oisin Phelan (Belle).

The Equieire novice 90 qualifier class went to St Declan’s Conor Cusack riding Killone Dasher and he also claimed a second qualifing place when taking third on Annadale Royal Mint, while Tullow Community School’s Niamh Tobin was second on Hershey’s Kiss.

Gorey Community School’s Lily Gallagher riding Mystic Magic, St Peter’s College Wexford pupil Jack Jones on Billy and St Declan’s CC Kelly Morrisey on Coasa Lady claimed the remaining qualifing places. Eva O’Grady, representing St Mary’s New Ross, riding Kilberan Lad (Eva O’Grady) won the fun 80cm class.

Excellent record

Gorey Community School kept up their excellent track record when claiming victory in the TRI equestrian open team event once again. The team members this time were Lauren Adams on Quintaira DZ, Angelica McGee with Abbeybrook Aurora, Eimear Ni Cinneada on Killaspic Kilamaster and Maisy Adams riding Corradino Du Barry.

The Loreto Wexford team of Caoimhe Murphy (Chour Magic), Faye Murphy (Grove Street Lady), Jessie Murphy (Pinot) and Lily Mae Berry (Skylanna Scatman) claimed the runner-up spot ahead of Presentation Wexford in third. The Presentation team was Maggie Willet (Sally Grey), Eva Mulligan (Sia) and Grace Kelly (Arnie).

The TRI open Individual league points went to Ciara Sinnott representing St Mary’s New Ross, riding Smooth Passin Sarco, Martha Power on Cash Advance, also from St Mary’s New Ross, Loreto Wexford’s Jessie Murphy on Pino, Presentation Wexford’s Eva Mulligan on Sia, Gorey Community School’ Holly Spencer riding Mischa B and in sixth Wesley College’s Emily Crawford riding LGS Safari.

The final class of the day was the Horse Sport Ireland-sponsored Premier 1.10m class and gaining the coveted qualifier rosettes were St Mary’s New Ross’ Martha Power with Cash Advance and Ciara Sinnott riding Smooth Passin Sarco; Wesley College rider Emily Crawford and LGS Safari; FCJ Bunclody representative Sarah Kavanagh on Dexter; and Loreto Wexford riders Lilly Mae Berry and Jessie Murphy on Skylanna Scatman and Pinot, respectively.

Action moves to Kildare on the October 2nd when Newbridge College host their Interschools event in Coilog Equestrian.
