THE final leg of the hotly contested AIRC Southeast Regional Dressage League took place recently, again attracting strong interest for the sixth and final leg.

The competition, hosted by Thomastown and District Riding Club, was held at Fernhill Sporthorses, Co Kilkenny, by kind permission of Carol Gee. A large field of competitors throughout the Southeast area were in attendance, vying for places in both this competition and for the overall league placings.

Five previous legs of the league had already taken place, kicking off on February 12th at Barnadown Equestrian, hosted by Carne RC, followed by Clooneen Tipperary (Clonmel RC), Stonehaven Equestrian (Waterford RC), Cooleboy (Tinahely RC), Boley Equestrian (Coole Lane RC) and Carrigbeg Equestrian (Barrow Valley RC).

Fernhill Sporthorses offered the perfect venue for the final and even though the weather didn’t play ball prior to the day, requiring Plan B to be put into operation for parking, the day ran very smoothly overall. All in attendance were grateful for a rare dry and bright day, which enabled the host club to provide two competition arenas on sand, plus an indoor warm-up area.

Competitions progressed smoothly and the two judges on duty for the day, Paula Geiger and Sarah Jane Doyle, were kept extremely busy. The crowd of spectators was very appreciative of the excellent riding on the day and a well-run event.

Results from each class were posted promptly to the eagerly waiting competitors and prize-giving for both this individual leg and the overall league took place once the results were approved. The day provided sunshine, smiles, rosettes and trophies for many, and great memories for all.

Many thanks to our competitors, supporters, volunteers and sponsors for their support. Special thanks to Treo Eile for their sponsorship of the highest placed thoroughbred in the league and also to Sagittarian Photography.
