THE final of the Equine Awards NI performance horse championships takes place tomorrow (Sunday) at Gransha Equestrian where the last two qualifiers were also staged.

Two horses needed a second outing on Tuesday evening to qualify for the final with the four-year-old being the Gwen Scott-ridden First Glance, a bay gelding by Obelix.

Bred in Co Down by Wallis Birch out of the Silvano mare Cairnside Hoity Toity, he is a full-brother to the highly regarded and much beribboned working hunter, First Rate.

Scott had already qualified the 2016 Tullibards Bennys Legacy gelding Mountview Storyteller for the five- and six-year-old final and two Irish Draught geldings, Ratheoin Jack In A Box and Mountainview Silver Fox.

The last horse to book her participation in the five- and six-year-old final was Jessica Perry’s 2016 Beach Ball mare Lisnasure who was bred near Banbridge by Brian Clinghan out of his Hermes de Reve mare, Lisnaree. This bay, who has yet to appear in registered company this season, picked up nine Show Jumping Ireland points last year.

Jonny Mulligan has qualified two horses for both age classes – the four-year-olds Dunkeeran (a gelding by Coolkeeran) and the traditionally bred mare Glasker Happy Hour (by Road To Happiness) and the five-year-olds Kilmanahan Cool Star (a gelding by Cool Diamond Star) and Rathcashel Beach (a mare by Beach Ball).

While she is well used to it, Emma Jackson will be kept busy as she has qualified two four-year-olds, Glassdrumman Pippa and SSR Joe, the five-year-old Ardglen Star Happiness and two Connemaras, Rockfield Gold Digger and Ashfield Casanova.

Victoria Mullen has three horses qualified including the four-year-old OBOS Quality 004 gelding The Ladies Choice who will be competing in ridden and working hunter classes over the summer. In the older horses’ class she will ride the five-year-old Lancelot gelding Fun Time Frankie, who had a spin under Eventing Ireland rules at Tyrella last Saturday, and the Connemara Kilcolman Curlew, a five-year-old by Robe Thunder.

Farrier Rory Lavery will be double-handed having qualified the four-year-old Tullaher Milo, a gelding by Shannondale Sarco St Ghyvan, and the year older OBOS Quality 004 gelding, Temple Quality Diamond.
