MARTHA Sitwell has been hailed a style icon in the making. Her style – evoking more than a hint of the 1930s – and “let’s do it!” attitude (she once rode across Mongolia side saddle) sets her quite apart.

Harry Hall invited Martha to work with them to create a top-class, British-made collection of hunting clothes and accessories and the collection is utterly distinctive, beautifully tailored and recalls an era when women embraced femininity. The whole collection will wear just as well on the high street as in the hunting field, with definite hints of Dior’s 1940’s new look collection in the cut of the breeches, the skirt of the jacket and the elegant waistlines.

DESIGN AND STYLE

“The idea is to make women look and feel like goddesses again,” explains Martha. “For this range I’ve skimmed the cream from different periods. The jacket’s fuller skirt and slightly leg o’mutton sleeve don’t restrict movement while accentuating the waist and keeping the bodice snug.”

While the collection is flattering it’s practical too — with touches like a reflective strip in the back of the hunt coat’s collar to make riders more visible as they head for home.

The five-piece collection comprises moleskin and corduroy breeches, a hunt coat, waistcoat and wax coat. Side saddle aprons can also be made to order and fittings are available.

Prices start from £180 for the waistcoat, £180 for breeches and the hunting coat is £1,470.

The hunting and wax coat are made to measure.
