MAYO'S Michael G Duffy has finished third in Saturday's Queen’s Cup – Segura Viudas Trophy at Barcelona’s five-star Nations Cup Final show in Spain.

Riding the the Carl Hanley-owned nine-year-old gelding Chappo Chey, he was among 18 combinations who jumped clear in the first round to set up a hugely competitive jump-off.

He had the disadvantage of being second to go against the clock, but set an excellent target of clear in 38.52 seconds to take the early lead.

This impressive round saw him hold on to take third place at the finish, collecting almost €14,000.

Victory went to to America’s Jessica Springsteen with RMF Swinny Du Parc, in a time of 38.04, ahead of Belgium’s Pieter Devos who took runner-up spot with Gin D in 38.36.

The Longines FEI Nations Cup World Final takes place in Barcelona on Sunday, with the Devenish & Underwriting Exchange Irish team among eight teams who have qualified and will battle for €1.25 million in prizemoney.
